Singapore Grand Prix: Sprint & Qualifying team notes - Alpine

Pierre Gasly: "We definitely have mixed feelings after today.

"The Sprint Race was tough for us and we struggled for power on the straights throughout the race, which we quickly reviewed to understand for next time. In Qualifying we really did a good job, I was very happy with that, and it was probably one of my best Q3 performances of the season so far. It is a very unforgiving track and it has generally been quite a tricky weekend so far. You have to really build up to it and grow in confidence lap after lap. I pushed the limits further and further and it all came together in the end and I was happy with the lap, so it worked out very well for us. I took a lot of risks on that final run, really on the edge, touched a few walls, but that's what we needed to get the Racing Bulls. Tomorrow is a bit of an unknown for everyone without much practice time on high fuel. I see it as a good opportunity, I am looking forward to that and we have put ourselves in a good position, P7 on the grid with the penalty for George [Russell], which means we have to capitalise and score good points."

Franco Colapinto: "It has been a bit of a frustrating day, not only with not getting the most out of Qualifying but also stopping on track in the Sprint earlier in the day with an issue with the car. In the Sprint, I just lost power, and everything shut down, which I know we're looking into further as a team. We made some changes and fixes between the sessions to parts already in the pool and got back out on track. I felt in a good place in Q1 and was able to push and put a good lap time on the board. After that, the car progressively felt more difficult and there was a strange balance shift where I lacked rear grip, particularly on my last lap in Q2. I'm a bit lost as to why that was and it's something I'm sure we'll look into. I made contact with the wall in the final sector of the lap, but I was already quite a bit down on my previous laps, so it did not really impact where I ended up. We will try our best tomorrow to move forward and score points if we can. We know anything is possible here with the weather and some cars not finishing, so let's see where we end up."

Steve Nielsen: "A bittersweet day in the end for us but, importantly, we concluded it on a positive note with Pierre's excellent Qualifying performance. It means he starts P7 on the grid for tomorrow's race and that gives us an excellent opportunity to collect a handful of points which is becoming increasingly important for us in our Championship battle. The Sprint Race did not go to plan; Pierre had power issues throughout the race and that meant he had no real tools to take the fight to those ahead, who, eventually scored valuable points. Franco stopped on track with a suspected Energy Store issue, which we identified and replaced ahead of Qualifying. He struggled more with car balance and rear grip in Qualifying, which we are working through to understand and improve. It is important we target a smooth race tomorrow, rely on some of our strengths from recent Sundays and aim to put ourselves in a position to score as many points as possible."
